B O D Y 〰️ C O N F I D E N C E

WOW – I’m finally breaking up from my travel blogs and creating a blog on my personal side. This subject to me is so touchy and I am sure I’m not the only one in this boat. Body image is such a massive part In todays society, we come into contact with many different people everyday whether you are a barista at your local coffee shop, you are a host at your local restaurant or whether you are just a retail salesperson in a retail shop. You would have defiantly encounter someone that would be suffering from body confidence.

I grew up in a small country town in NSW, Australia and I was a kid that never was the skinniest – I am one of 4 girls and two of us are bigger in size and my other two sisters are skinny. I remember thinking I wanted to be skinny like my two sisters. They could wear whatever they like whereas me and my older sister struggled, still to this day I struggle finding clothing to wear. Body image is something that everyone in this world can relate too, whether you are male or female. You go through different stages in life where you are completely happy within yourself and then there’s other times where you are completely unhappy with you and life, thats when depressing feelings and emotions come into play. I have been like that in my life.

As a kid I have always been bigger then everyone else. I never got on a scale back then because I never believed in that. But thinking about my past life the struggle in both primary and high school were real. I always covered up in larger jackets. I remember in High School we had a complete new uniform come into effect and I didn’t want to wear the pleated skirt – but I had too and so I made sure I always wore shorts underneath just incase anything was to happen. I always competed in sports (where I could). My parents really wanted my younger sister to be that golden child – she could succeed at anything and my mum would push her, and well I just went along for the ride. Both my younger sister and I competed in swimming meets once a week as well as swimming training 3 times a week. We both competed in Field Hockey in the winter and then I had decided I wanted to participate in Baton Twirling for my local club. I was always active as a kid but I was never skinny out of it, I was always fighting my demons until now…

Im 29 years old – I’m about to hit that 30 mark. But in the last few years I had dramatically put more weight on then ever before. I remember walking into my doctors office and asking to cut my weight off because when I left Canada in may 2015 I was 76kg fast forward three months later and I had tipped 100kgs. The most depressing moment of all time. My doctor sent me for the usual tests and he thought It would be a great time to put me on a meal plan – a meal plan that he and his wife created for their patients. I did that plan for 8 weeks and nothing had accumulated out of it. I remember he saying to me that I didn’t stick to it properly and in that moment I walked out and found another doctor that cares about what I say and not what he/she thinks is best. My second doctor sent me for the usual tests – he wasn’t happy with the results so he sent me to a specialist an endocrinologist, where he took the time to get to the bottom of my quick constant weight gain, it was official I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the body lacks sufficient thyroid hormone. Since the main purpose of thyroid hormone is to “run the body’s metabolism”, its understandable that people with this condition will have symptoms associated with a slow metabolism. Its a common condition that not many people may know that they are suffering from it. It’s treatable with certain medication – which I was on for a short period of time. I do need another check up.

A big thank you needs to be shouted out to a good friend of mine Alesha Pimm who owns Building Elite. When I was at my very most vulnerable stage she stepped in and help me gain my confidence back. This photo to the right is me at the south Grand Canyon when I was on a contiki trip in July/August of 2017. I remember in this moment I was reflecting on everything that had happened in my life and if it wasn’t for real friendships and the love of my family I wouldn’t be in a place I’m in now. Thank you Alesha for your commitment to the community and showing me the strength that I have from within.

I’m signing off with a few favourite photos of all time. These photos of me below was shot from a good friend of mine Captured dreams by Melanie. I remember messaging her and asking to do a boudoir shoot as I had seen some in Vancouver, and she was happy to do the shoot – I remember being so nervous, never have I ever decided to do anything like this but you know I was feeling good and it was something that I wanted to remember for future. I’m so glad that I had taken the plunge and created these amazing images, because I can look back at them and say yep thats me with all the body confidence in the world.

Los Angeles

I cannot believe that I’m finally taking on this tour. I have been wanting to do this tour for 10 years and after many attempts I have finally paid in full and I’m going on this trip of a lifetime.

The day was quickly arriving July 18th I was departing Brisbane to arrive in Los Angeles and where I was going to have this amazing journey with new found friendships. The beauty of doing a contiki trip is that once you are paid in full you can search the tour and connect with other travellers – a good way to break the ice once you see them in person.

I met 1 girl in person Ree – as she was from the Gold Coast and I live in Brisbane and then on the day that we flew out I met Julianne from Rockhampton. I flew Virgin Australia and the other two girls flew Qantas. I was super excited that I had friends already before our tour even begun.

We departed at different times and arrived within 30 mins of each other – Go figure with airlines!! We landed and made our way to the pre hotel accommodation – The Custom. We dropped our bags off In Julianne’s room and made our way to Universal Studios where we walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere.

That same day inside Universal Studios we met three more travellers on the same tour Simon, Tash & Paul. Because we have been speaking some what before hand it felt so comfortable seeing them in person. Highlights from Universal Studios was Harry Potter world. Ah-Mazing!! Although Orlando is that much more better but I will talk about that a little later on.

Ree, Julianne and myself decided it was time to leave and make our way back out to our hotel, which was a good 30-40 mins away. I remember I was slowly going in and out to sleep, Ree was absolutely passed out and Julianne was just sitting there in our uber. Thank god for Ubers..

We all walked back into the hotel and ree and I wanted to check into our room, and just as we walked inside we noticed Emily and Mikela sitting there & just naturally again we said hello. We got our room keys and made our way up. I remember the front desk telling me I had someone already checked in and I’m like okay I hope she’s nice – haha she was the best – Sarah!! Both Sarah and Tash are my closest friends from this trip and I’m forever grateful that I met these stunning girls.

Julianne and I planned something for dinner, Ree was obviously going for a nap and of coarse she didn’t wake up so we left without her. Both Ju and I made our way back into Hollywood walk of fame where we met up with Simon, Tash and Paul for dinner. That day was a massive day when I think back. But hey say goodbye to jet lag – hello Grand Southern Tour.

Day 2. Rolled around and we were waiting for our new friend Ashleigh to join us. She too was flying in from Australia. Sarah was getting ready to head to Universal Studios and I was getting ready to head out with the other girls – Today I was driving in LA. Nervous as hell!! Ash finally arrived and we made our way out the airport to pick up the car. First thing first was to find a mobile store so we can get American SIM cards. Success. Then we made our way to Santa Monica – I have been here before but the other 3 haven’t so I was like lets go.

We spent lunch time out there and then decided to make our way to the Hollywood sign. Because we had a car we were able to go to the better lookout and get a closer look. Success. Except for the fact that I missed the turn off and ended up on the 101, we got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and I’m like get me off this highway!! We made our way back to Hollywood Walk of fame where we did the Madame Tussards Wax Museum.

We then made our way to Rodeo Drive. We were a bit late so shops had shut so we turned around and made our way back to the airport to drop off the car and head back to the hotel. We got back around 7pm – I walked into my room thinking Sarah would be back nope, She was having the time of her life at Universal Studios, she was having so much fun that she didn’t get back until 10-10:30pm!! She’s crazy!!

Dinner again with all the girls and then it was time to get ready for our new adventure together with everyone else. I remember feeling nervous and excited. Nervous – will anyone like me. Excited – that I get to see a side of America I haven’t yet explored. Well at the end of the journey I couldn’t have asked for a better group to share this amazing journey.

Day 3. We had to meet in the lobby to meet our trip manager Phil and everyone else that were coming on this journey of a lifetime – most of us travellers were from Australia. I had already connected with some of the other travellers through Facebook so I naturally said hello or waved, but there was so many people around I was like where do I begin. We all finally got everything ready – Sarah and I quickly made a Starbucks run and before we know it we boarded the bus and started our journey to Las Vegas.

WHISTLER, CANADA 🇨🇦

Its Tuesday the 17th of October. Its been 13 days since I have touch down into Vancouver and made my way up to the beautiful town of Whistler.

Some of you are aware but I have been to Whistler before. January 2014 to may 2015 I enjoyed the company of friends and also I loved showing my family around in May before I made my journey back home.

Before coming to whistler I thought I had everything sorted. But sometimes not everything goes to plan but hey whats life if it doesn’t throw you curveballs every once in a while.

I landed in Vancouver on Wednesday 4th of October. I made my way through to customs, collected all my bags and then proceeded to immigration where I had a daunting task of waiting for my visa – yet the line was like 2 hours long. In future don’t land at lunchtime if you are getting a working/student visa. My plan of attack was to get my visa, head outside to get a taxi, head into the city get my sin (social insurance number) and head back to the airport to catch the bus to whistler – well that was one curveball, because the immigration line was super long I ended up staying a night in Vancouver and being Thanksgiving accommodation was expensive. So I messaged a good friend of mine and she was happy to give me a friend rate for the four seasons. Luxury come at me…

Thursday I finally made my way to whistler after getting everything I needed to get – SIN number & Phone number. Making your way up from Vancouver to whistler through the mountains is so breathtaking – if you haven’t been to the side of the country or the world its a must to get here. I knew in that moment that I was coming home and it felt so good.

I settled in to my new home – I brought over from Australia all my bedding as my room didn’t have anything there – I slept so well that night. Friday morning came I had to sort out some loose ends for my job on the mountain after that was done I then made my way to work, my housemate was nice enough to give me some work straight away being thanksgiving – Whistler blackcomb have an annual sale on this weekend and its known as turkey sale. I had the best time getting in there and working with people that I have known since I last left which was 2.5 years ago.

I haven’t work since as its quiet season. Its currently fall so its raining down in the village, snowing up on the mountain. Its slowly getting cold which only means one thing Winter is around the corner…

Until next time

Air New Zealand ✈️

Hello my friends. I want to thank everyone for there amazing support from my first blog. If you haven’t already seen my first blog, please feel free to read it 😃 This is a new thing for me so I’m still learning. Plus I’m really excited to see where this takes me. My intentions on my blog posts are to write one a week. so feel free to sign up and follow me but I will link it to all my social media accounts for you all to read and follow.

So this is my second post and its a travel post:-

This is my second time flying a return flight from Vancouver with Air New Zealand – first one was October 2014 and todays flight 4th October 2017, ironically they are both in October hehe but I remember vividly about the first flight that no matter where you sat on the plane you were treated like you were someone. Unfortunately in previous times of flying in my opinion the flight crew just don’t seem to appreciate their guests on the flight to the destination. But I remember about my first trip with Air New Zealand – it was a massive day I worked the morning of the flight as my departure wasn’t until 6pm, I then made my way down to Vancouver from Whistler I finally made it to Vancouver and I was so tired. I got on the plane with no trouble at all but remember falling asleep as soon as the plane took off, well in that instance on any international carrier they serve dinner within the first few hours so naturally I missed dinner. What got me so stunned and the fact that I instantly fell in love with Air New Zealand was the gentleman that was looking after me in my section he noticed I was awake and moving around so he naturally came over and offered me my dinner (and yes I was absolutely starving!!) That service screamed amazing service but not only did it not stop there, throughout the entire 12 hour flight, the flight crew constantly kept walking around with water infused with lemon and lime to refresh your water cups and even though I wasn’t an extreme traveller back then my reaction was like wow!

This is why Air New Zealand is the worlds #1 airline for the fourth year straight. Well Done!

Fast forward to todays flight – Im moving back to Whistler so naturally I thought I would fly back with Air New Zealand. This time flying over I wanted to experience the premium economy (as my first experience with premium was with Virgin Australia coming home in august from the USA). I made a bid online – which is easy to do and yes of coarse I was successful. I was so excited about because I was about to experience another airlines premium economy (this time the #1 airline). My parents came to the airport with me, they parked, helped me get checked in and came and had coffee with me before I loving gave them a kiss and a hug and bon voyage. First stop Auckland.

I’ve now reached Auckland -the plane was delayed out of Brisbane due to a smoke detector going off in the bathroom, which pushed my arrival time at Auckland back 3 hours (didn’t worry me but there were a few guest on board that were going to miss their domestic flights if they didn’t get off first). I spent an hour roaming the airport before I made my way to the gate where I can get priority boarding due to the fact that I indeed had a premium ticket. Take off has begun and my journey starts….

I’m now settling into my seat before we took off one of our cabin crew Philip comes around with a hot hand towel to wash your face – once everything was all good we took off and then dinner is about to begin. Whats on the menu?

Master stock poached chicken salad with green soba noodle, daikon and baby corn with pomegranate pearls with a selection of breads and also served on the first tray was the dessert a Dulce de Leche panda cotta with salted caramel (the first time I have had panda cotta and it was delicious!!). Our selection for my main was:-
1. Slow cooked beef with mashed mascarpone potatoes, cumin roasted carrots and radishes with silverbeet
2. Monkfish with smoked mussel and saffron chive sauce, crushed new potatoes, sautéed spinach and peas
3.Masala rubbed chicken breast, spiced rice with cauliflower, green beans and aubergine pickle with kachumber salad.

As I was waiting for Elaine to come around to take my order Chris (The cabin manager) was coming around the premium economy cabin to greet all the guests and ask where our final destination will be and I looked at that and was wowed even more. Chris you are amazing at your job and I’m super thankful that I got to be apart of your flight to Vancouver Canada.

Well I definitely slept well on this trip – as its now breakfast is being served. On the menu was yoghurt, fruit plate, cereal, hot croissant and your hot choice of pancakes or scrambled eggs.

Chris the manager and the crew in premium economy Philip & Elaine – thank you so much for your hospitality and service.

Thank you so much for reading this super long blog. I have always said that when writing these blogs I want to keep them to a short blog but sometimes its worth it to write a long one.

Much love xx

My Very First Blog Post ❤️

Wow!! I cannot believe I have decided to finally start this amazing journey on being a blogger. For a few years I have been constantly thinking of writing blogs or just writing something but my inner fear would always overpower my thought of producing something like this – but speaking to quite a few of my friends – with their support and guidance I have decided to take this plunge.

These blogs that I want to write are going to be about personal struggles, talking about my passion for fashion and makeup and also talking about my travelling stories because as of October the 4th I would have moved to Whistler, Canada to embark on a working holiday. A working holiday that I have done previously in 2014.

I hope you enjoy following my journey
